As a Discipleship school, we are to mentor the lives of our students in the image of Christ.  Therefore, we are called to serve.  Jesus said in Matthew 20, “He did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  In stark contrast to the society in which we live that is intrinsically self-centered, Christians are to exhibit a servant spirit.  That becomes part of the message to our students at Southwest.  But that message must be met with action.  James said in chapter 2, “… faith without deeds is dead.”  As a school, we then seek opportunities to serve.  Twice a year we suspend classes and send our students and faculty into the community to serve for a day.  That may take the form of raking a yard and washing windows for a senior citizen, helping at a food shelf, tutoring young children in the inner city, or preparing food packets for families in developing nations, or a host of other opportunities.  It is the tangible expression of Christ’s love for those in need.  Southwest students appreciate the opportunity to serve and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Another aspect of serving that is a part of the program at Southwest is the annual Senior Missions Trip.  This trip is taken in the fall to the Dominican Republic under the sponsorship of Score International.  See Senior Missions Trip on this web site for further details.
