OUR FUTURE
In 2003, Southwest and the City of Chaska signed a resolution giving the school a temporary use permit allowing the school to remain at its present location until 2010.
In the winter of 2006, the Board of Education appointed a Next Site Facility Committee to begin the process of examining the options and recommending a new site for the school to the Board of Education.
Now, we have some exciting news to share with the Southwest community. Through the work of the Next Site Facility Committee and the generosity of a group called Friends of Southwest, we would like to announce that we have a purchase agreement on 28.8 acres of land in Chaska! All thanks go to God who has guided and led this entire process!
The property is currently farm land located on the southeast corner of Bavaria Road and the new Interstate 312. Because the Bavaria Road bridge across the new interstate is not yet completed, the only access to view the property is coming north on Bavaria Road from Engler Road.
Update as of April 30, 2008
On Monday of last week, the Chaska City Council by a vote of 3-1 gave Southwest approval to the Concept Plan for the school site on Bavaria Road and the new 312 Interstate. It was a big answer to prayer, and the Board and Next Site Facility Committee are grateful to the many Southwest supporters who supported the process in prayer. The next steps include addressing the 13 conditions the City Council placed before the Next Site Committee in moving forward to Preliminary Approval before the City Planning Commission and City Council, probably in June or July. The conditions include items such as a traffic study, a wetlands delineation study, a site grading and storm water design study, and more.
Currently, the Southwest Next Site Committee is in the process of hiring an architect, contracting with professionals to perform necessary studies on this property, and making some preliminary plans for a Capital Campaign Program.
As always, please continue in prayer. We have a mighty project in front of us, and a mighty God to meet our needs.
