Mr. Dan Beckering Principal
Mr. Beckering grew up on a farm in Southwestern Minnesota and went to the other high school in the state named Southwest Christian. He attended Dordt College in Sioux Center Iowa, majoring in history and secondary education. While at Dordt he played three years of college basketball, received his coaching endorsement, and married his wife Laura. After graduating from Dordt with a BA in Secondary Education, the Beckerings moved to the Twin Cities and he began teaching at Southwest. During his first four years at Southwest, he taught history and Bible classes and coached boys basketball. In 2005 he took on the position of Dean of Students along with teaching AP US History and coaching the boys varsity basketball team. In 2007 Mr. Beckering became Principal of SWCHS. The Beckerings have 4 children: twin boys Bennet and Caleb, Kylie, and Avery. Mr. Beckering enjoys playing a variety of sports, fishing and hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. sue beuning Director of Admission Sue Beuning has served as the Director of Admission since 2005. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Bemidji State University, she spent four years serving in youth ministry in Missouri. Mrs. Beuning then spent 11 years in a variety of roles in non-profit ministry administration and marketing, and she also served occasionally as a trainer in ministry leadership skills. In 2002 she received a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary. Mrs. Beuning lives in Bloomington with her husband of 5 years, David. An ideal day for her is when the phone rings off the hook with prospective families interested in Southwest, she finds some time to continue reading in one of the 12 books she's started, and she can get outdoors with her husband (walking, biking, gardening, or playing tennis.) Mrs. Kristie Gusa District 112 Nurse Awaiting Bio. Mrs. Vicki Olson Receptionist Vicki Olson is a graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa, where she earned a degree in music education and was active in the drama department. After teaching elementary music in Sigourney, Iowa, she felt that her music abilities would be better used in music ministry. She traveled with The Continental Singers one summer, crossing the southern United States and finishing the summer with concerts in Israel, Austria and Yugoslavia. Two years later she began a two year tour with Covenant Heart Song, a music/drama ministry team with the Evangelical Covenant Church of America which ministered mainly in the US, but also in Germany, Norway and Sweden. It was during this tour that she met her future husband in Minnesota. Vicki and Al have been married for 29 years, have lived in Excelsior for 24 years and have two children, Valerie (’07 SW grad) and Charlie (‘10 graduate of Minnetonka High School). In the fall of 2005, Vicki began working part-time as receptionist at SW, later changing to full-time. Besides being the first voice heard at Southwest, Vicki has been an occasional substitute music teacher and is the music director for the spring musicals at SW where her contact with students is more gratifying than the handing out of tardy slips.
rev. daniel bolt
Rev. Daniel Bolt teaches O.T. and N.T. Survey. He has been married to Elizabeth for 23 years, and they have 4 wonderful children: Alex, Stephen, Lillian, David. Rev. Bolt served as a Deputy Sheriff prior to being called into Pastoral ministry. He is ordained with the Baptist General Conference (BGC), and has pastored three churches in 17 years of ministry. He has also taught in three different school settings. Rev. Bolt's favorite books are the Bible, The Blessing, and Wild at Heart. His main interests are: his children, running, Hebrew, and pursuing a doctorate. His favorite passage in the Bible is Proverbs 3:5-35, which begins, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Mr. Brian Goldie
Brian Goldie is the Chaplain at Southwest and teaches Theology, Philosophy, and Worldview. Mr. Goldie grew up in California and Colorado before coming to Minnesota for college. Mr. Goldie has worked as a college student Chaplain and was an interim pastor of a rural church in Northern Minnesota for 2 years. He began teaching at Southwest in 2001. In 2004 he and his wife both left to attend Seminary together and upon completion of their Masters degrees returned to Minnesota. From 2000-2008 he served as an itinerant evangelist with Kingdom Building Ministries speaking at youth events and conferences around the nation. Beginning in 2008, he returned to Southwest. Mr. Goldie and his wife of 7 years, Jody, live on Campus at Gustavus Adolphus college where his wife works in Residence Life as an Area Coordinator for first-year students. Brian and Jody have one son, Thorin, who was born in February of 2010. They also have a dog, a cat, and 400 students whom they live with. Mr. Goldie loves the peace of reading a good book, the freeing feeling of having had a truly honest conversation, a good meal and a hearty laugh with old and true friends, backpacking and the outdoors, early mornings just before the sun is up, the sensation of a new idea or an old one well put, and anything that brings him closer to the God who made it so he will never be the same.
Mrs. ann broscoff
Mrs. Broscoff is the Director of Student Academics and Advanced Life Sciences teacher at SWCHS. She has worked at SWCHS since the first year in 1996. She has a B.S. in Secondary Science Education, a M.Ed. in Special Education with an emphasis in Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, and additional training in the area of Learning Disabilities as an NILD (National Institute for Learning Differences) Certified Educational Therapist. Her duties at the school involve overseeing the academic program for all students, coordinating academic plans for students with disabilities, doing student scheduling, maintaining student records (report cards and transcripts), and serving as the Science Department Chairperson.
Mr. Austin Dyck Awaiting Bio. Dr. Kathyrn Wilson
Kathryn Wilson grew up on a small farm in rural Wisconsin, where she graduated elementary school from an 8th grade class of 7 students. After studying chemistry at UW-Stevens Point she pursued a doctorate in Biomedical Sciences at Wright State University focusing on membrane biochemistry. Her dissertation project gave her exposure to numerous science disciplines. She met her husband Brian in Ohio and they moved to Minnesota in 1991. Dr. Wilson has previously taught a wide variety of chemistry courses at Gustavus Adolphus College and Crown College. Kathryn is blessed with three wonderful children. She enjoys biking, camping, canoeing, cross-country skiing, and playing in the dirt (gardening). As a lifetime learner, she also enjoys taking community education classes. Joining Southwest Christian in 2010, Dr. Wilson teaches Chemistry and Honors Chemistry – Crown in the School. She is excited about engaging students in all levels of science, interacting with each unique learner, and enabling students to connect chemistry with God.

Barbara Hoklin has her B.A. In English, her Masters in Education, and is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic. She returned to the world of education after 18 years in practice with her husband and is confident that God knew what he was doing when he transformed her into an English teacher at SW. She is grateful to have the opportunity to share her passion for literature, writing and the Word with her wonderful students. She teaches English 12, AP English 12, AP English 11, and English 11. Ms. Erica Cooley
Erica grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She resided there until attending Crown College in St. Bonifacius, MN where she recently graduated with her degree in Secondary English Education. While at Crown College, Ms. Cooley developed a love and attachment to beautiful Minnesota and now has made it her permanent home. However, she will never let go of her loyalty to the Nebraska Huskers! In addition to Husker football, Ms. Cooley has an interest in all things outdoors, from playing tennis to fishing. This will be Ms. Cooley’s first year in the Southwest community, and she is excited for the adventure. She believes God has placed her at Southwest to share her love and passion for the world of English with her students in both English 9 and English 10.
mr. bill becker
Raised in the Midwest during the 50’s and 60’s, Mr. Becker holds degrees in engineering and business. After working in sales and marketing for 30 years, he joined the teaching staff at SWCHS in the fall of 2002. He has taught classes in both math and business. Mr. Becker and his wife have raised three children. They enjoy spending time together, with their family, and with their Golden Retrievers.

Leanna Swanson was born and raised in the Twin Cities and graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 2000. She then attended Bethel University where she studied History, Art History and sang in the Bethel Choir. At Southwest since 2006, she has taught Geography, Western Civilizations, and United States History. Mrs. Swanson is also involved in Ceramics Club, Social Committee and Night of Stars. Working with young people and teaching are close to her heart. She continues to be thankful and excited that God has called her to serve at Southwest. She says, “It is clear that God has a special plan for the school and is working in a powerful way here.” mr. paTRICK MEALEY
Patrick Mealey has been a teacher for 10 years and has been at Southwest for 5 years. He has been married to his wife, Lori since 1991. Patrick currently teaches Western Civilization, AP and non-AP US Government & Politics, Economics, and Personal Finance. Also, he is the director of the Drama Department at SWCHS which produces a fall play and a spring musical each school year.
Mr. woody johnson
Elwood "Woody" Johnson is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Choral Conducting. At the age of 14 he aquired his first position as a church organist and by the age of 16 he was directing a church choir and playing the organ at a Lutheran church in Minneapolis. Over the years he has played or conducted choirs in many local churches. Mr. Johnson is a well-known music educator throughout Minnesota. The honor of Minnesota Choral Director of the Year was bestowed upon him in 1988 by the American Choral Directors Association. He has 14 choral compositions and arrangements in print and is author of a middle-school and junior high textbook called "What is Rock?" which was used extensively throughout the country in the 70s and 80s. He is former Music Coordinator of the Minneapolis Public School system and taught choral and instrumental music there for 30 years. He has also taught music courses and choirs at Northwestern College, Fairview, Lutheran Deaconess and University of Minnesota Schools of Nursing. Mr. Johnson has been teaching at SWCHS for over 7 years. mr. greg sayuk
Mr. Sayuk was born in Napa, California as the last of two siblings. Raised in Vallejo, California, he played hockey, baseball, soccer, and volleyball in high school. Mr. Sayuk attended Bethel College, graduating with a degree in Media Communications and a minor in Film Studies. He is currently working on masters in Sports Psychology at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Mr. Sayuk came to SW for the 2004-05 school year, teaching sophomore English, yearbook, and PE and coaching volleyball. Responsibilities now include volleyball coach, video and gym teacher, and voice of the Southwest basketball teams at home games. He and his wife Tiffany married in the summer of 2007 and they now reside in Chaska with their cats Trudy and Mika. His interests include playing and coaching volleyball, and being a superfan of the Southwest sports teams. Miss Petra Wonders
Petra Wonders grew up in Minnesota , attended Bethel College for a degree in Art Education , and currently resides in Minneapolis. Before teaching at Southwest, she spent three years working in international adoption in Russia and Ukraine , and currently helps coordinate orphan hosting trips . As an artist, Miss Wonders likes to paint , but is more often found taking photos. Her favorite free time activities include running, reading , gardening, and studying Russian. Miss Wonders is the co-leader of Ceramix Club and the staff advisor for Poiema , the student art and literature magazine published each spring , and for Articulate , our creative arts night . She began teaching at Southwest in 2005 .
mr. tom vellani
Tom grew up in Columbus, Ohio as the third of seven children. He is the beneficiary of a private schooleducation, grammar, high school, and through his sophomore year in college when he transferred to The Ohio State University and earned a B.A. in History from the College of Humanities. Tom’s introduction to Latin was initiated at Aquinas College High School; he continued with Latin while at the university. Mr. Vellani and his wife Mary have been married for 36 years. They have twochildren: Gina, who resides in New York City, and their son Peter, who lives in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Tom and Mary are active members of Bethesda Church in Prior Lake. When Mr. Vellani retired from the business world in 2003 he determined to see what he could contribute in education. Starting first as a substitute teacher at Southwest and other Christian schools he began teaching Latin at Southwest in the 2004-05 school year. Mr. Vellani soon proposed a 4-year Latin program which was approved by the administration; the transition to this new curriculum started in the 2005-06 school year. Hobbies include reading and doing chores on his hobby farm. It is no surprise that he is also a huge Buckeye fan. Any student that wears a garment that says Ohio State will always be approached by Mr. Vellani saying “O – H!” repeatedly until they respond with an “I – O,” you know, “O – H – I – O.” Tom’s reasons for teaching are four: to serve, to befriend, to educate, and to enjoy. MISS KRISTIE KEENAN • B.A., Spanish Education K-12, Bethel University Kristie Keenan grew up living on a lake in Willmar, MN. She graduated from Bethel University where she pursued degrees in Spanish Education and ESL and also sang in the Bethel Choir. During the fall of 2007, she lived abroad with a family in Segovia, Spain, where she continued learning more about Spanish language and culture. In her spare time, Miss Keenan enjoys reading, traveling, playing sand volleyball, water skiing, snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends. Joining Southwest in 2010, Miss Keenan teaches Spanish levels 1,2, and 3. She is excited about sharing her passion for Spanish and building positive relationships with the students. She is grateful to serve God and be part of the community at Southwest.
Mr. Jon Longnecker
After 12 years in sunny South Florida, God saw fit to move this wannabe golfer to Minnesota and Southwest Christian High School -- and he couldn’t be happier! Mr. Longnecker says, "Only God could have orchestrated the events that led to my coming here and I am eager to see what He has in store both for my family and for SWCHS." In addition to teaching physical education, health, and O.T. Survey, Mr. Longnecker coaches varsity softball and JV girl’s basketball. When not at school, most of his time is spent with his wife Chandra and their young sons Caleb and Jacob. He enjoys playing or watching sports, reading, traveling, going to the gym and listening to music. His family attends Westwood Community Church. He is grateful to God for the opportunity to serve Him here at Southwest and he is thrilled to be a part of this community. mr. greg sayuk
