Leadership Academy

Program Format

As a discipleship school, Southwest Christian is passionate about training up our students so that they, to the best of their abilities, can become the godly leaders of tomorrow. With this in mind, the Leadership Academy has been developed to train students to grow in their own leadership skills. The academy will cover such topics as:

  • A definition of Biblical leadership that is molded by God’s Word
  • The concept of servant leadership
  • Spiritual gifts and individual skills inventories
  • Interpersonal and group communication
  • Conflict resolution
  • Discussion of different types of leadership styles
  • Development of a personal vision of leadership
  • Principles of personal leadership and management
  • Principles in developing other leaders

Throughout the course, students will learn from local ministry and business leaders as as work through case studies and various tasks. Students will not receive academic credit or a grade for participating in the Leadership Academy.

Attendance

Each student is required to attend at least seven of the eight sessions with the commitment to make every session if available.

Schedule

The Leadership Academy meets on Wednesday or Friday mornings from 7:30–8:40 a.m. on dates that do not conflict with student leadership meetings.

A true leader is a constant learner who commits to grow and:

  • Faithfully attend and participate in the sessions
  • Learn and complete the various readings, challenges, and assignments given in class
  • Strengthen their love for God and discipleship
  • Live a life that is above reproach in attitude, speech, and actions
  • Develop a responsiveness to correction
  • Follow through with responsibilities
  • Keep a positive and respected reputation among classmates, faculty, and those outside our community
  • Desire to develop the character traits expressed towards overseers in Titus 1
  • Boldly stand for what is right and pleasing to God and confront that which dishonors God
  • Willingly speak in public before students, teachers, parents, and board members
  • Do his/her academic best – students must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA

Participation in the Leadership Academy will be limited to those students who successfully apply for this program. To be eligible for the Academy, each student must:

  • Be a full-time Southwest Christian junior or senior
  • Complete a short application and have it signed by his/her parents
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from a non-family member
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA
