Student Life

Our goal is for each student to know they belong. We want them to experience a friendly, deep, and rich community. High school is a fantastic time to explore different activities and discover what passions God has wired students with. We believe our community provides many experiences for students to get involved—either as a leader or participant—trying new activities and striving in programs they are passionate about.

Student life begins with a common vision to seek, know, live and proclaim the Truth of Jesus Christ and expands into all areas of life for the student. Each student is loved and valued as a child of God and then encouraged to grow in their love for God and others.

At the start of their time at Southwest Christian, each student will be connected to a small group of other students in a discipleship group. This is a great starting point for connection, social and service opportunities, and individual spiritual growth. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to worship together as a student body and within small group settings. Students will have the chance to serve, share, and witness through Southwest Christian’s all-school service days and will be challenged to grow academically and relationally. Students will grow on the athletic field, in the fine arts, and within many social gatherings and community building events.

Throughout their time at SWCHS, students will have opportunities to connect, participate, evangelize, and serve.

It’s coming… this Saturday night…

Teaching at Southwest Christian is life-giving for many reasons, but the people that I get to be with on a daily basis are what make this job the blessing that it is. I work alongside thoughtful, devoted colleagues and curious, hardworking students who collectively aim towards a life in Christ. Consequently, teaching at a Christian school allows me the opportunity to intertwine learning with the deepest anchors and frameworks of our lives, something that infuses our mission with meaning and worth. My family and I are deeply blessed by Southwest Christian and we look forward to deepening our roots here.

On this day celebrating the life of Martin Luther King, Jr, we asked SWCHS history teacher Peter Welle to share a segment of one of King’s speeches. He begins with his own reflection on the meaning of King’s life to a Christian history teacher.

Mr. Welle then reads a segment of a King sermon about wanting to be first in the Kingdom of God. King sees our desire to lead as a very human longing that Jesus, as he often did, turned on its head. We should want to be the first to serve, the first to help, the first to love.

We hope our students will spend a minute considering whom we celebrate on this day, and this video is a great way to start. Watch to the rest of it at the link in bio.

Thanks to Brandon Mosley, SWCHS Class of 22, for his video editing work!

We’ve had a lot to cheer about this year including the return of many of our traditions, a State championship win from our boys soccer team, and a continued strong focus on integrating faith and academic content. As you wrap up your year-end giving, we hope you’ll consider supporting Southwest Christian High School! Link in bio to online giving options. ...

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” - Luke 2:13-14

Wishing you a joy-filled Christmas from all of us at Southwest Christian High School.

(Thank you to Abby Vis, Class of 2022, for this artwork of our school!)

Are all your packages wrapped? Of course not! So head over to SWCHS between 10 am and 2 pm with your items and let them wrap for you! Enjoy some Christmas music and a coffee or tea while you wait; bring a friend. Donations to the SWC music program are welcome.

(And if you need some groceries today, stop by the Cub in Chan and let the baseball team bag for you! 9:30-3)

Mrs. DeVries led her instrumentalists and singers in a beautiful concert celebrating Christmas. We are grateful for the many gifts which God has given our students and for the leading of our talented director. She ended with our traditional classic “Peace, Peace,” a clip of which is here, fitting for a concert theme of “Peace on Earth.” Enjoy more clips from the afternoon in our stories! ...
