Mason Beise Qualifies for State

Mason Beise qualified for 2018’s Cross Country State Meet with a time of 17:26.5, placing 13th overall in Section 4A Sectional Meet last Thursday. Beise is the fourth Stars cross country athlete to qualify for state in the last five years.
The junior cut off 1:33 from last year’s Section 4A time of 18:33; however, Beise’s Minnesota River Conference Championship time of 17:09 gave him further confidence from his season-long discipline to keep improving his marks. “Truthfully, the sections race was not my best run. My strategy typically is to come out fast and hold a pace with the group in front,” Beise said. Even though he didn’t hit his MRC Championship personal best, Beise still clinched a ticket to the state meet and hopes to reach his goal of running under 17 minutes at the state meet.
“At the beginning of the season, I knew if I worked hard enough I could get where I wanted to be,” Beise said. “The thing that pushed me the most was being a team leader and having responsibility for the underclassmen by being a good example of hard work and perseverance.
